Hello Again

I made a trip back to Melbourne (yes, again!). It’s funny what a place can do to you after you’ve left it for a while. This was a Jen-shall-do-nothing-and-chill trip, and I literally did that! Well, I did have to run some shopping errands for dad, but that’s another entry altogether.

It was pretty much  a

1) Wake up at 9 am and breakfast

2) Left for city at 10 am

3) Shopped around at Smith St, Chapel St, DFOs, Bridge Road

4) Ate my favourite food, and drinking the skinny caps

5) Shopping in the city at Myers, David Jones, MC, Priceline

6) Do a gym session (or 2, or 4, depending on my mood)

7) Warm cozy fat-fuelled dinner (Thank you Karen for the risottos, fish & chips and the chocolate fondants!)

8) Good night world

Shall update more when I get to upload the pics. The new Canon G10 was so much fun. Was literally using it on manual mode for the entire time, which meant lotsa horrible outcome, but so insightful (pun intended).

Trips. Trips. Trips.

I’ve been told I favour Australasia quite a fair bit, and I don’t deny that. What’s there not to like? It’s a whole new world away without the 18-hour flights, at least that’s what I thought.

I made last minute plans to go down to Auckland, New Zealand to take part in the filming of BodyCombat 40, which incidentally is its 10 year anniversary! How fast time has passed, and the programme has changed my life. From the way I view my health (slobber then) to the friends I’ve made, I’ve indeed come a long way.

What I didn’t count on was a 20-hour flight to Auckland. Yes, you heard me right, 20 hours. I only knew my outbound flight was stopping over at Adelaide for an hour when I checked in, and that’s on top of the official Sydney stopover, and my next flight onwards was 4 hours later. So imagine,

Singapore -> Adelaide -> Sydney -> Auckland = 6 + 1 + 4 + 3 (plus 5 hrs time difference)

I arrived at Auckland at a grand 10pm. I left Singapore the previous night at 10 pm. Go figure.

Of course, there’s the importance of great company too. Without which, I wouldn’t have made my way to LesMills filming. Stayed together with Mark, William, Toshie and Angie. We entertained ourselves by watching Naked on E! (imagine the irony), and Dr. 90210 (William’s favourite), while slurping inordinate amount of junk food and instant noodles.

And now, I’ve booked for a trip back to Melbourne. I should give it a term sometime soon. How does “Babka Pilgrimage” sound? It happens to fall on the May Day and Vesak Day week, which is also the day Melbourne holds its 2nd quarterly for the year at Monash, yay~. Don’t really fancy the dreary winter, but I do need a good break!

I miss…

The simple life. Which can be categorised as

- Poor student, attempting to survive on AUD 30/week. Totally excelled in that.

- Gym Nut. Still am, though not as much as I want, since leaving work at 8pm doesn’t cut it. Those 10 hours/week of classes does make me cringe now.

- Being the domestic goddess. From pulling a Jamie Oliver to reanacting food p.o.r.n ala Nigella Lawson, playing with food has never been so appealing. Then again, finding 18 rolls of toilet paper at AUD $4.80 at The Reject Shop also gives me so much satisfaction.

- Walking along Smith Street at North Fitzroy. Yes you have druggies, yes you have the lower caste of the society living in public housing that’s barely upkept by the local councils. But it has fantastic quaint shops, Hunter and Gatherer, factory outlets and best croissant in Melbourne. The vibe is just lovely (provided I don’t live in the public housing).

So, after 2 years, I still have adaptability issues back home to take care of. Don’t think it can really go away…
